What's new at Renew: one month since our launch
Renew Retreats officially launched on August 10, 2019. It is hard to believe only a month has passed since then, because so much has been happening! Here’s what we’ve been up to at Renew.
We get excited just looking at our calendar of retreats, group hikes, and workshops for the remainder of 2019. You can find a list of events here. Be the first to know when registration opens: subscribe to our newsletter or follow Renew Retreats on Facebook and Instagram.
Not in BC’s Lower Mainland? This December we will be hosting meet-ups in Ottawa and Toronto. We hope to meet some of our community there!
OUR FIRST RETREAT
We hosted our very first retreat on August 25, 2019. A group of 10 womxn travelled to Bowen Island to summit Mount Gardner. We could not have asked for a better group or way to kick off our retreats! Read more about the day here.
We are hosting our second retreat this Sunday, September 15, 2019 in Lighthouse Park and can’t wait to get back out there with a new group of womxn!
OUR FIRST WORKSHOP
We hosted our first workshop: Hiking 101 with guest speaker Kristine Krynitzki (Hikes Near Vancouver) on Wednesday, September 11 in downtown Vancouver. Twenty-five womxn attended - eager to learn more about hiking safely and with confidence, and left ready to take on their next adventure!
Kristine shared with us her wealth of knowledge and 15 years of hiking experience. She covered everything you really should know if you are going to spend any time outdoors, including:
How to create and why you should always leave a trip plan plus the app Kristine uses to create a plan
How to find hikes, Kristine’s favourite resources for finding trails, suggested apps to use when hiking (including high quality trail maps), and other helpful resources
The Essentials: what you should be bringing on every hike
How to dress for hiking in different weather conditions, the materials you should avoid, choosing a hiking boot, and where to shop
Tips on training mentally and physically for hiking and how to develop your hiking skills
Dealing with challenging situations: what to do if you get hurt or injured, lost, or encounter a bear or cougar
By popular demand we will be hosting a repeat of the workshop and opening it up to men: Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at the Donnelly Group Hospitality Suite in downtown Vancouver. Register here. Open to all genders!
